What we do to help with employment


At Bredin we will work closely with you to identify your work experience and job interests. An action plan will be developed that will outline the type of job you are looking for as well as the wage you require to support yourself. Our employment Counselors can help with your job search needs.




Our facilities have many resources available for you that include:

  • Reception desk to greet you and direct you to resources in the room or to staff
  • Current print resources on job search techniques, resume writing, hidden job market,
  • Interview skills, stress management, job retention, etc.
  • The publications produced by Career and Workplace Resources of Alberta Human services including occupational profiles and tip sheets
  • Job board with current job openings the Bredin staff has found that give a breakdown of the position requirements, wages and hours, what the employer is looking for in a resume and what they want to see in an interview as well as directions on how to apply
  • Job search materials such as industry guides and employer directories
  • Materials on government programs such as Child Care Subsidy, Employment Insurance, Income Support, etc.
  • Information on community resources and agencies
  • Training and educational institution calendars
  • 10 computers equipped with high speed Internet, telephones, fax machine, and photocopier



Job Search Work Shops Available

Numerous workshops are offered through Bredin.  In addition, workshops are presented off site to high school, post-secondary institutions and community organizations.  

Resumes and Cover Letters - You will learn how to create a positive first impression through writing a strong resume and cover letter that is tailored to the jobs you are seeking.  

Interview Skills - You will be guided through the purpose and types of interviews as well as the do's and don’ts of the interview process.  Information will be provided about the most commonly asked interview questions and how to answer in an informative and professional manner.  

Job Search - This workshop is designed to assist you in developing an effective work search strategy.  You will be guided through a variety of work search methods to access the hidden job market and will be encouraged to try a variety of options.  

Job Maintenance - With the help of Alberta Employment and Immigration published resources such as Job Smart: Tips for staying employed and Let’s Talk: a guide to resolving workplace conflicts, you will learn the skills necessary to be an effective employee.  

Workplace Health and Safety - You will learn how to identify health and safety hazards on the job, how to conduct a hazard assessment and how to speak to their supervisor about workplace safety (including worker’s right to refuse unsafe work).
