Getting Help With Education PreparationOur Counselors will work with you to identify your career path and provide information on educational requirements to enter that career choice.
If you have completed our career planning program, and require further training/education to attain your career goals you can meet individually with a Counselor to explore education/training options and the funding sources that you may be able to access. The Counselor will work with you to provide an understanding of the issues surrounding participating in training/education.
Areas discussed will include:
- Making an informed career choice,
- Researching training/education options
- Identifying available supports for the training i.e. financial, personal and family.
- In addition, program information, guidelines, funding limits, explanation of applications, processes and required documentation will be discussed.
Some Additional Workshops Available
Scholarships & Student Loans - This workshop is designed to reveal funding options available to Alberta students enrolled in secondary and post-secondary training. You will learn the difference between loans, grants, bursaries and scholarships and be guided through application forms, long answer and essay questions, as well as reference gathering.
Study Skills - You will determine your own personal learning style and what study methods work best for you. You will also learn about useful note-taking strategies; how to make time in your schedule for studying; the importance of setting attainable goals; strategies to deal with procrastination and how to identify and overcome test anxiety in order to improve your study skills and become the student you want to be.
Time Management - You will learn how to effectively manage your time to gain maximum productivity and lower stress. You will learn to identify where your time goes, to plan ahead according to priorities, set achievable goals, create a time management action plan and beat procrastination in order to gain more control over your lives.
Basic Budgeting - Students often have budgeting issues, and in many cases are so focused on how to pay the bills that they cannot commit to a dedicate job search. This workshop will provide information on planning for regular and irregular expenses to create a personalized budget geared toward achieving your goals. Topics such as borrowing, saving, stretching your dollars by making small changes and information on community supports for food and clothing will also be covered. All participants in the workshop will be given the Stretch Your Dollars handbook from Credit Counseling Services of Alberta
